Prompt: Consider a film that portrays your culture. Reflect on how accurately your culture is represented and the potential impacts of this portrayal

One film that portrays my culture is Coco . It shows Mexican traditions like Día de los Muertos in a respectful and beautiful way. The music, family values, and visuals felt very real and familiar. It helps people understand and appreciate our culture more, which is important. Today in class we presented our group projects about African American stereotypes in film. My group talked about how certain characters are shown in movies. We also watched other groups present their projects. It was interesting to see all the different examples people found. I had a game today and it was intense. We ended up going to penalties after a tough match. Everyone was nervous, but we stayed focused. We won in penalties and it felt amazing.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Ive outgrown staying up all night playing video games with my friends. We don’t have time anymore, and it sucks. I miss laughing at dumb stuff until 3 a.m. like it was the best thing ever.  Today in class we worked with vocab words. We had to find an image that matched the meaning of each word. After that, we explained why the image fit the definition. It helped me understand the words better. Overall, my day was good. I felt calm and in a pretty good mood. Nothing really stressful happened. It was just one of those chill, easy days.

Prompt: What are some common stereotypes that you believed about high school students? How true or not true are these stereotypes?

I used to think high school students were either really popular or only cared about grades. I also thought everyone was into sports or didn’t care about school. But after being in high school, I realized that’s not true. There are all kinds of students with different interests, and everyone has their own way of handling things. High school is more about finding your balance than fitting into one group. Today in class, we continued our group work. We kept working on our project and shared ideas. It was good to make more progress and discuss different points with my group. We’re getting closer to finishing it. I have a game today, and my day has been good so far. Everything is going well, and I’m looking forward to the game later. It’s been a pretty easy day.

Prompt: Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a person or group was based on stereotypes. How did this realization affect your behavior or beliefs? What steps did you take to change your perceptions?"

There was a time when I thought a quiet classmate was unfriendly, but I later realized they were just shy. I had judged them based on a stereotype that quiet people don’t want to talk. When I got to know them, they were actually really nice and funny. This made me realize that I shouldn’t assume things about people without knowing them. Now, I try to keep an open mind and give everyone a chance before making a judgment. Today in class, we got into groups and analyzed African American stereotypes in movies. We talked about how these stereotypes affect the way people see others. Some examples were common roles like the “funny sidekick” or the “criminal.” It was interesting to see how movies can shape ideas about different groups of people. My day at school was good. I went to class, did my work, and nothing was too hard. I got to talk with my friends and had a pretty normal but nice day. Nothing special happened, but it was still a good day.

Prompt: Write a blog post reflecting on a time when you or someone you know was misunderstood because of a single story. How can limiting ourselves to one perspective be harmful? What can we do to make sure we see people and cultures more fully?

One time, my friend was misunderstood because people only saw him as a quiet kid. They thought he was shy and not very smart, but he was actually really funny and creative. When we only see one side of a person or culture, we miss the full story. This can lead to wrong ideas and unfair judgments. To see people and cultures more fully, we should listen, ask questions, and keep an open mind. Everyone has more to them than just one story. Today in class, we did a CommonLit.com assignment. We read an article and answered questions about it. The questions helped us understand the main idea and details better. Some were easy, but others made us think more. It was a good way to practice reading and thinking skills. Today was a good day. I went to class, did my work, and everything went fine. Nothing too hard or stressful. I got to talk with my friends and just enjoy the day. Overall, it was simple but good.

Prompt: Discuss how mastering precise vocabulary can impact your daily communication and academic success.

Using the right words can make a big difference in how you talk and do well in school. If you know the exact words to use, people understand you better, and you don’t have to explain things over and over. In school, good vocabulary helps with essays, speeches, and even tests because you can say what you mean clearly. It also makes you sound smarter and more confident. If you use the wrong words or don’t know enough, people might get confused or not take you seriously. So, learning better words helps you in daily life and makes school easier too. Today in class, we wrote sentences with new vocabulary words. It helped us learn how to use them the right way. Some words were easy, but some were tricky. This practice made it easier to remember the words and use them in real life. It was a good way to get better at writing and speaking. Today was a good day. I went to class and did my work, which wasn’t too hard. We wrote sentences with new vocab words, and some were kind of tricky. At...

Prompt: Today’s article discussed how more people are choosing to live in the suburbs rather than in the city. When you become an adult, which lifestyle do you think you would prefer—city life or suburban life? Choose one and explain your reasons clearly

When I become an adult, I think I would prefer suburban life. I like the idea of having more space, a quieter environment, and being away from the busy hustle of the city. Suburbs often offer more affordable housing, and I think it would be nice to have a bigger home and a yard. While city life has its perks, like being close to work and entertainment, I enjoy a calmer and slower pace, which the suburbs can offer. Plus, the suburbs usually have good schools, which is something I’d think about in the future. In class today, we had another CommonLit.com assignment and worked on it as a class. We read the passage together and discussed the questions, helping each other understand the material better. It was a good way to share ideas and make sure we all got the main points of the article. The class was focused, and we worked through the assignment pretty quickly. My day was okay overall. I had another game today, and unfortunately, we lost again. It was a tough match, but I felt like...
